In ancient times, trees drifted out to sea, and a type of marine clam attached itself to the wood. As it ate, it bore holes into the tree, leaving distinct markings. As sediment accumulates in these holes, crystallizing over time, the resulting stone has a distinct appearance with markings similar to peanuts.
