October Month of Magic: Eihwaz and Perthro

For the October Month of Magic, Sage Goddess is proud to offer this exciting new addition to our magical wellspring, a beautiful Eihwaz and Perthro Rune set. Throughout the past months, we have greatly expanded our knowledge of runes. I am excited to continue exploring the power and symbolism of runes with you, covering two runes every month throughout this year.

Runes have been used in many magical ways since the beginning of recorded history. They’re a primordial form of psychological assessment, and they were cast and read by oracles much in the same way we use Tarot cards or the I Ching. And long before that, runes were actually part of a now-forgotten language.

Runes are derived from an ancient alphabet – about 18,000 years old – whose roots can be heard in Celtic and Viking languages, and even modern German. However, Runic was probably never a spoken language. Even from the earliest inception, runes were used as a magical and ritual language. This was an elite language for magical practitioners.

The magic of Eihwaz and Perthro runes

This month we will decipher two runes, Eihwaz and Perthro. Eihwaz is the rune of strength and mysteries – the strength required for the inner journey, and the mystery of life and death. It is a reminder from the Universe to be open to understanding what is truly important. It reminds you to be flexible, so that you may learn and grow spiritually through uncertain times. Perthro is the rune of fate, representing uncertainties in life, free will, and the restrictions we experience due to our circumstances. It carries a message from the Universe that in the game of chance, the answer lies in the grey areas, between the stark black and white, giving purpose to random events.

Your October Month of Magic set will include the following tools:

First in this set is a pair of wooden tea light holders. Carved from maple and etched with the runes for Eihwaz and Perthro, these are beautiful treasures you will love incorporating into all your ritual work. You will also receive 1 intuitive tea light per rune in an organza bag.

After that, you’ll receive two wooden runes (made of sassafras or maple), 1-1/2″ in diameter, which have been printed with the symbols for Eihwaz and Perthro. Your pair of runes will also include a leather card to describe the meaning of each rune. Please note that this is genuine leather which will age and change over time.

Next you will receive a duo of Eihwaz and Perthro perfumes. My Eihwaz perfume has notes of tobacco, cedar, and sandalwood; an earthy scent designed to help you embrace the mysteries of life and death with strength. My Perthro perfume has notes of tuberose, orange blossom, and nectarine, designed to support and inspire you during times of uncertainty and limitation. Both perfumes come in 15mL square bottles, and are infused with clear quartz chip stones to further amplify their properties.

Lastly, you will receive a piece of lapis lazuli to correspond with Eihwaz and a piece of snowflake obsidian for Perthro. Lapis lazuli is the Queen’s stone for royalty, power, presence and self-esteem. It brings luck, fortune and a regal sensibility. Snowflake obsidian is a gentle grounding stone that heals tears and holes in the auric field. It reminds you of your inner strength and your latent fire.
