These iridescent ammolite specimens are amazing. It’s incredible to think that a 400 million year-old mollusk once lived in this now-fossilized shell. This is the only remaining earthly imprint of an extinct creature.

Ammolites are found in Madagascar and North America. They are created from ammonite fossils that have become coated in an opalescent layer after decades of compression and mineralization. And let me tell you, they are something to behold. The beautiful ivory patterning across their spiraling forms gleams with a rainbow of colors when you turn them in the light. A work of art made by Mother Gaia herself.
