AroMagic is my course on aromatherapy and herbal magic. This year, we are exploring “A World of Magic,” where I take students through an exploration of global civilizations and meta-cultures. The herbs and oils covered in each class will be available for purchase every month in a special AroMagic set. Members will learn about the metaphysical properties of the herbs and oils, and how to use them to make hand-crafted products for personal use.

Each month, we learn about the herbs and essential oils of a different civilization. Our exploration spans from ancient to contemporary times. Together, we tap into the power of these herbs and essential oils, infusing our own modern practices with their ancient magic. Included in our discovery are each culture’s traditional culinary and medicinal practices, and the associated myth and lore.

This set includes the oils and herbs that accompany March’s AroMagic class. Essential oils carry the energetic properties of the plant they were extracted from. Working with these sacred tools will deepen the medicinal energy of the plant through the power of aromatherapy. This is where the olfactory system, which is linked to our deepest subconscious, comes in. We literally tap into our deepest memories through the power of scent. Aromatherapy is my passion, and I look forward to sharing it with you.

March 2018 AroMagic Set: Tools for Systemic Balance

This March, we are exploring the vibrant culture of India, a civilization that is alive with ancient traditions. In this AroMagic set, you will receive an assortment of oils and herbs that will introduce you to the basic concepts of Ayurveda, the Indian system of holistic healing. Now, I will not reveal too much here, because we are excited with anticipation to explore the properties of these botanicals in our classroom this March. This is a special discussion that you won’t want to miss! Included in this set:

Essential Oil of Tulsi, Holy Basil, one (1) 5 ml bottle. Holy Basil is a legendary part of Hindu culture, where it is known as “The Elixir of Life” and “Mother Medicine of Nature.” Tulsi is an herb that nourishes the spirit, and is believed to come from Divine origins. To Hindus, tulsi is the embodiment of Lakshmi, the goddess of love, abundance, and prosperity. It restores harmonic balance physically, mentally, and spiritually. Scientific researchers have invested a great deal of interest in Holy Basil, providing substantial evidence of its healing properties. Tulsi’s healing power is profound, and works on the deepest levels of our beings to restore systemic balance.

Coriander Essential Oil, one (1) 5 ml bottle. Coriander is an ancient herb that has had continuous use for over 5000 years. Coriander seeds are the small fruits of the cilantro plant, also known as Chinese Parsley. Coriander is considered both an herb and a spice, and is enjoyed culinarily and medicinally all over the world. Coriander’s legendary healing properties have a place in folk medicine, Chinese Medicine, and Ayurveda. Coriander seeds are rich in essential oils, which lend themselves naturally to aromatherapeutic uses. It is well known that coriander’s exquisite aroma reduces anxiety. Its essence is comforting, cooling, and stabilizing.

Ashwagandha Root, one (1) 1 oz tin. Ashwagandha is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing. It has been used since ancient times, and is most well-known for its restorative benefits. It has a long established reputation as a rejuvenating tonic and aphrodisiac herb. In Sanskrit, Ashwagandha means “the smell of a horse,” indicating that this herb lends the vigor and strength of a stallion. Traditionally, it has been prescribed to strengthen the immune system after illness. Ashwagandha has a mythical reputation as a herb of longevity, and has been called the “elixir of life.” It strengthens the vital energy of the body, and brings total systemic balance. It eases the effects of excessive stress, and strengthens the power of endurance. It sharpens the intellect and enhances memory. Its power as an aphrodisiac has been appreciated throughout the ages.

Vermillion Powder*, one (1) 1 oz tin. Vermilion powder, also known as kumkum, has a deep significance, and it’s usually applied on the forehead as a blessing on the third eye. Its use was widespread throughout the ancient world, from Turkey to India, to Rome, Europe, and beyond. Symbolic to this day, many Indian women apply it to their foreheads to achieve the brilliant red dot that indicates marriage and fertility. Vermillion powder plays an important role in Indian wedding rituals, where the groom applies it to his bride as a symbol of their union. *Vermillion powder is not to be burned or inhaled, but can be used externally as a cosmetic.

To reflect the basic properties of these Ayurvedic oils and herbs, we are including one (1) 1 oz bonus bottle of sesame oil, and one (1) 1 oz bonus bottle of apricot oil. Sesame oil is warming and heavy. Apricot oil is cooling and light. Depending on your needs, your environment, and your herbs, you can use either of the base oils to create a wide variety of home-crafted blends.
