What is an Archetype?

Archetypes are universally recognized symbols, patterns, or characters that exist in the collective unconscious. They represent fundamental human experiences, emotions, and motivations that transcend time, culture, and individual experiences.

Understanding archetypes allows us to gain insight into our motivations, fears, aspirations, and the collective human experience. Exploring them offers a framework to comprehend and connect with universal themes present in our lives.

Eve and Lilith Canvas

Size: 8.5 x 11”

This canvas features two of my favorite female archetypes inhabiting a single form — Eve on the left and Lilith on the right. Both figures embody diverse aspects of femininity, autonomy, and wisdom, a duality we delved into in January.

Who are Eve and Lilith?

Eve is the First Woman of Judeo-Christian traditions and a figure of free will and self-determination. Before tasting the forbidden fruit, she embodied the role of the ‘good girl’ following societal expectations. Her decision to seek knowledge and enlightenment in spite of the consequences is a testament to her strength, independence, and Divine Feminine power.

Lilith originates in Sumerian tradition, appearing in the Epic of Gilgamesh. She appears again in the Kabbalistic tradition as the first wife of Adam. She was created as his equal, and demanded she be treated as such — a demand which had her cast out of Eden. Associated with the dark moon, Lilith’s themes are freedom, playfulness, sensuality, and sexuality. Call on her to invoke your inner wild woman.

Brigid Canvas

This canvas depicts Brigid, a goddess of the eternal flame. We’re exploring this inspirational archetype of emerging life, anticipation, and tending your inner flame in February.

Who is Brigid?

Brigid, revered as both a Celtic goddess and a Christian saint, embodies inspiration, creativity, and healing. We celebrate her association with fire, poetry, smithcraft, and the nurturing forces of the natural world. As a goddess of hearth and home, she represents warmth, protection, and the transformative power of the flame.

Isis and Osiris Canvas

Size: 8.5 x 11”

This canvas features lovers Isis and Osiris, whose timeless tale weaves a narrative rich in themes of resurrection, undying love, and the eternal dance of life’s cyclical nature. We’ll be working with these two figures in March.

Who are Isis and Osiris?

Isis is a powerful queen and ancient goddess of Egypt. As the revered patron of magic and a guiding force for women, she embodies the essence of divine motherhood and matrimony. Her magic is of memory and remembrance, transcending past, present, and future.

Beside her stands Osiris, the god of the afterlife, a majestic ruler over death, and a master of renewal. The bringer of wise discernment, Osiris can illuminate the secrets of resurrection and regeneration deep within us, offering profound insights into the cycles of life, death, and rebirth.
