Rainbow moonstone isn’t actually moonstone — it’s a variety of white labradorite! Both moonstone and labradorite are feldspar minerals, but in most moonstone, we see a shimmering light play that refracts only one color at a time, known as adularescence. However, rainbow moonstone and labradorite display labradorescence, a flashier light effect that simultaneously refracts multiple colors in the spectrum.
