Who is Flora?
In ancient Roman mythology, Flora was a nymph who transformed into a beautiful goddess after being kissed by Zephyrus, god of the west wind. The Romans regarded her as one of the most important gods in their sprawling pantheon and looked to her to provide them with a fruitful crop each year.
Each spring, the Romans held a festival in Flora’s honor filled with games, dancing, flowers, and colorful clothing. Known as the Floralia, this joyous holiday was one of the major events on the Roman calendar — a time to welcome the arrival of spring, celebrate beauty, and pray for continued fertility and abundance.
