Even more special is the story behind this gem’s name. Jacinto is a Portuguese and Spanish word for Hyacinth. In Greek mythology, Hyacinth was a beautiful mortal man, lover of the god Apollo. Jealous of Hyacinth’s beauty, wind god Zephyrus killed Hyacinth. When Hyacinth died, Apollo formed a flower, the hyacinth, from the spilled blood so that his lover’s spirit may live on forever. This quartz got its name from its blood-red color that is reminiscent of this stunning, wisdom-filled flower.
