A member of the quartz family, amethyst is characterized by its unmistakable and rich violet color. The lighter amethyst crystals – those that are lavender, lilac, and slightly grayish in color – are referred to as pink amethyst, although there are some gems that have pink hues. Amethyst is the gem bearer of self-control, wisdom, and discernment. It promotes restful sleep, helps you maintain equilibrium during stressful periods, prevents nightmares, and counteracts both alcoholic and emotional drunkenness.
